This four-bedroom, two-bathroom multigenerational townhouse in Mililani received a full remodel, redesigning floor plans to add aging-in-place accommodations while keeping a modern aesthetic.
The job was contracted to Open Concept Designs Hawaii, a certified aging-in-place specialist, whose scope included renovating the living room and kitchen, among other areas of the house, and redoing the electrical and plumbing systems.
The current kitchen and living area was previously three separate rooms – the kitchen, dining and living rooms – which contractors tore down to create an open-concept space.
The homeowners, according to Open Concept Designs Hawaii Owner David Nadolney, are also avid entertainers who sought elements that could accommodate large groups. The kitchen features a 4 1/2-foot by 9-foot center island that can seat up to six people, which contractors ensured had ample floor space around its perimeter to maintain accessibility.
Contractors also rearranged window placements to accentuate the new floorplan and installed new tiling and other finishes to complete the transformation.
